A 50-Year Musical Journey
Charlton Bruce is a seasoned musician and entertainer whose roots run deep in South Carolina. Born to descendants of Scots-Irish farmers, he was raised on a farm in Abbeville County, where music was as natural as the changing seasons.
His earliest memories are of sitting on his grandfather’s front porch, listening to family jam sessions filled with traditional Appalachian tunes, bluegrass standards, and old Irish and Scottish ballads. Music was more than a pastime for his family. It was and is their heritage and their story. His grandfather, a touring bluegrass musician in the 1930s, helped lay the foundation for his lifelong musical journey. His great-grandmother and his father were both church pianists. He grew up surrounded by music and musicians.
His uncle Chris, also a guitarist, taught Charlton how to play. His uncle spent much of the 1980s touring Europe as a skiffle musician and bluegrass picker in pubs in Ireland, Scotland, and Germany.
Picking up the guitar in the early 1970s, Charlton carried these traditions forward, developing a style that honors the past while inviting audiences into the experience. With over fifty years of performing not just as a musician but as a true entertainer, he brings warmth, humor, and connection to every show.
Whether leading spirited sing-alongs, encouraging clapping and dancing, or handing out the occasional kazoo, Charlton creates an atmosphere where audiences become part of the musical experience.
